Are you visiting Dubai? Do this first!

Habibi, come to Dubai! Well, we’ve arrived. The first country we’re visiting as the start of a few years of traveling the world! We weren’t actually planning to come to Dubai right now, but we’ve decided to move our company here and we’re here for some paperwork. But I’m We’ve been here for a week now and we’ve already learned some things about beautiful Dubai. What do you need to know when moving around in Dubai? These are our the first things we would recommend to do!

1. Get your Nol card
Dubai features a metro that gets you across the city and to a lot of important places. If you haven’t rented a car (which is very cheap) this is definitely the way to go. Dubai is a big place, so walking everywhere is not advisable as you’ll be walking for hours. So just grab the metro for a few stops and walk from there to your destination. You can get a Nol card from certain top-up machines at every metro station. Not all of them though. If you don’t see the option to buy a Nol card, just try a different machine. When getting your Nol card make sure you top it up with some credit. Not too much though since a one way trip can be a low as a few aed ($0,50). So just post 30aed on the card and you’ll be good for a while. And you can top-up at any station so you’ll never run out.

2. Download the S-Hail app
If you’re getting around by metro the S-Hail app is a must-have. Although the metro routes are pretty straightforward and you can easily find your way in the metro stations, the S-Hail app helps you plan your trips and see exactly where to get on and where to get off the metro. It will even show you how long you’ll be walking towards the station and how much a trip will cost. Talking about must-have apps, this one is REALLY a huge one:

3. Careem
Anything you need, Careem can get it for you. You can order a taxi, order food and even have your laundry picked up among other things. First of all, ordering a cab is so much cheaper than apps like Uber. It works flawlessly and customer support through chat is also great for when you have questions. They also offer a premium plan for 20aed ($6) a month that get’s you a 10% discount on rides and other perks. Personally I have never seen such a complete app where you can get all kinds of services from the tap of a finger. So make sure you go and download the app asap!

4. Talabat
Another must-have app is Talabat. This is like the ‘Takeaway’ app where you can order food from anywhere. It’s not exclusively a food delivery app, however that is the main focus. There are very cheap options as well as the more expensive restaurants. You can even order your common fast food here like McDonalds or KFC, depending on the available restaurants in your area of course. What I think is amazing about Dubai is the many healthy food options here. It’s very easy to get fresh and healthy food, so that’s really a plus.

There’s still a lot of exploring to do, but these are some of the things you should definitely do before heading out in Dubai so you know you’re always able to move around. Wanna follow our travels? Check us out on Instagram, where you can also follow our stories on the daily.
